Padma or Devshayani Ekadashi, which falls on Friday, July 12, is considered extremely fruitful. Worshiping Lord Vishnu on this day eliminates all the sufferings of a person, fulfills his wishes.

Chaturmas starts from Devshayani Ekadashi itself; there is no marriage or auspicious work due to Lord Vishnu sleeping in the Kshir Sagar for four months. According to mythological beliefs, Lord Vishnu, the follower of the world, goes to sleep in the Ksheer Sagar for four months, during which Mahadev, the god of the gods, also takes care of the creation. There was no misery in his kingdom; there was no lack of money and grain. But once it happened that there was no rain for 3 years and there was a famine in the state. Due to lack of food, difficulties started for the people and religious work also stopped.

The king was disturbed after seeing the situation of the people He along with his army went towards the forest to find a solution to this problem. After walking far enough, he found the ashram of Angira Rishi, son of Brahma. He went to Angira Rishi’s ashram and bowed to him and narrated his agony.

Then the sage Angira said that only Brahmins have the right to study Vedas and do penance. A Shudra is doing penance in your state, due to which there is a famine in your state. If you kill him, it will rain in your kingdom and the people will get relief from famine. King Mandhata refused to kill that innocent Shudra.

Mandhata requested the sage to suggest some other remedy. Then the sage Angira said that on the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month, Ekadashi, named Padma, is observed, you fast it methodically. This will solve all your problems. This fast is going to give to all siddhis. Following the advice of Angira Rishi, King Mandhata, along with all his subjects, observed Padma Ekadashi fasting with law. As a result, it rained and the famine ended. The subjects became happy and happy again.

For this reason, fasting of Devshayani Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month eliminates all the troubles and sins.
