Uses and Benefits of Shaligram Puja

The Shaligram representing the 'Sudarshan Chakra’ is the most sacred stone worshipped by the Vaishnavas and is used to worship Vishnu. It is considered most auspicious and are believed to bestow great wealth and prosperity on its worshippers. Shaligram is a black stone found in Gandaki river in Nepal. 

Shaligram stones are available in different colors such as red, black, yellow, green and blue. Of these, the yellow, blue and black colors are considered more sacred. Shaligrams are believed to wash away the sins of past and Present.  Drinking the bathed water of Salagram a person can help a person attain physical, spiritual and mental gain.

It is believed ritual is undertaken in times of solar or lunar eclipse, becomes all the more effective when done in front of a salagrama stone. Mainly Salagram is worshipped by offering panchamrit, Pure water, and Tulasi. It is believed God vishnu is easily pleased if someone offer tulasi leaves to salagram in worship of Salagram sila. Salagram is kept near Tulasi plant. Peepal trees must be worshipped especially on every saturday and offered water to peepal tree. It is believed that just by chanting salagram mantra a person is blessed and even can get rid of all sins.

Mantra in Salagram sila worship are-

“Om shree balgopalaya namah” and “om shree damodaraya namah”.
